Hilmar Veigar Pétursson has led CCP Games as CEO since 2004, driving its success and innovation in virtual worlds. A strong advocate for online communities, he has overseen EVE Online’s pioneering concepts like player-driven economies, democratic governance, and free-to-play mechanics, maintaining 20 years of subscriber engagement.

Under his leadership, CCP has pushed the boundaries of emergent gameplay, enabling players to shape vast digital societies. He has championed technological advancements to enhance player agency, making EVE Online the largest living work of science fiction.

Hilmar has spoken at major industry events, including GDC, DICE, Slush, and the Nobel Prize Conference. He serves on various Icelandic IT and innovation boards and is a SIBAC advisor in Seoul.

Previously CCP’s CTO, he developed its 3D engine and persistent world tech. He holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Iceland.
